‘Captain America’ is propaganda: French director

French film director Luc Besson lambastes America film ‘Captain America’ as “propaganda,” uniquely American — and not in a good way.

French film director Luc Besson has lambasted the US film ‘Captain America’ as “propaganda,” uniquely American — and not in a good way.

Besson criticized the film ‘Captain America’ in a recent interview by drawing a parallel of the flick to the fallacy of US supremacy.

“What bothers me most is it’s always here to show the supremacy of America and how they are great,” he said.

The award-winning French director elaborated, “I mean, which country in the world would have the guts to call a film ‘Captain Brazil’ or ‘Captain France’? I mean, no one! We would be like so ashamed and say, ‘No, no, come on, we can’t do that.’ They can. They can call it ‘Captain America’ and everybody think it’s normal. I’m not here for propaganda, I’m here to tell a story.”

The ‘Valerian’ director went on to say that he finds it difficult to relate to such characters.

Hollywood Cinema has long been criticized for its propaganda purposes, including pushing the fallacy of US supremacy and encouraging a divide between nations. The Hollywood culture has a direct influence on US affairs.
